Get Started guide for Jira administrators

Get started guide of GitHub links for Jira for Jira Cloud administrators.

GitHub links for Jira allow you to bring additional information about GitHub entities, like issues, pull requests, and milestones, to Jira’s issue view page.

Github links for Jira application is available on the Atlassian Marketplace - https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1217566/github-links-for-jira?hosting=cloud&tab=overview. It is developed by Platinum Atlassian Marketplace Partner - Move Work Forward.

Connect GitHub links for Jira with your organization

To Connect GitHub links for Jira with the organization, navigate to the Global Configuration page.

  1. Select Manage Apps from the section Apps on the Confluence navigation menu.

  2. On the left sidebar, find our app Github links and navigate to Settings.

  3. Click on Connect button. You are redirected to the authorization page.

  4. Authenticate yourself and authorize the App to see your private organization.

Make sure that when you authorize our GitHub OAuth App to access your data you select the organization you want to use the App with.

Disconnect GitHub links for Jira with your organization

If you need to reconnect or disconnect the GitHub links for Jira App with your organization, please:

  1. Unplug the App by clicking on the button Disconnect.

  2. Remove access to our app on the GitHub side (visit organisation settings).

Check Permissions

To avoid issues with the connection to the required organization, you have to check permissions on the GitHub platform side:

  1. You can do this by going to User profile → Settings.

  2. Navigate to the Integrations section and click on Applications.

  3. On the tab Authorized OAuth Apps, select our application Links for Atlassian Jira.

  4. Ensure there is a green tick (V) in front of your organization. See the picture below.

  5. To grant permissions click on the Grant button.

If you forgot to grant permissions to required organization or you don’t have permissions to allow it, you need to request the access from your org owner.

Usage with private repositories

To use the private repositories, you need to allow our Links for Atlassian Jira App to access your private repositories. We do not close or access source code. We use GitHub APIs to get additional information from the links inserted in Jira.

If you want to use this App only with public repositories - you do NOT need any additional configuration.

When you allow GitHub App to access your data, please make sure that you grant permissions to your organization as well, not only your personal repositories.
