GitHub links

FAQ

Not for public repositories. Public GitHub URLs are enriched automatically with no GitHub App connection required. A GitHub App connection is only required for private repositories.

Is GitHub data cached between panel opens?

No. GitHub data is fetched live every time the panel is opened. There is no stale cache - you always see the current state of the GitHub entity, including the latest CI status, PR state, or comment.

Can multiple GitHub organisations be connected?

Currently, only one GitHub organisation or personal account can be connected per Jira site at a time. To switch, disconnect the current connection and reconnect with the new organisation.

Yes. All *.ghe.com hosts are supported with the same link types and connection flow. See GitHub Enterprise Server.

Does this app work with Jira Server or Jira Data Center?

No. GitHub Links for Jira Cloud is a Forge app and requires Jira Cloud.

Which Jira fields are scanned for GitHub links?

The app scans the work item description, all comments, and all custom fields (including custom text fields containing URLs). The issue summary, labels, and other structured metadata fields are not scanned.

There is no enforced limit, but work items with very large numbers of links may take longer to load because GitHub API calls are made for each unique URL.

What happens if the licence lapses?

The GitHub Links panel will display a License Required screen with a message prompting you to contact your Jira administrator to renew or start a new trial, and a Visit marketplace button linking directly to the Atlassian Marketplace listing. Renewing or starting a new trial will immediately restore functionality.

A Contact us link to the Move Work Forward support portal appears in the panel's empty state (shown when no GitHub URLs are detected in the work item). It is also shown on the License Required screen. To submit a support ticket at any time, use the Support button on the Admin: Get Started Page, or visit the link in the panel documentation (question mark icon).
